There were tears, screams and practical panic as Australian pop star Cody Simpson put on a free mini-concert for South Mississippi fans Tuesday at Edgewater Mall in Biloxi.
D.J. Mason from 107.1 The Monkey, who hosted the show, said, “He’s the Australian equivalent of Justin Beiber.”
Simpson said all of this sudden, global attention doesn’t even feel real.
“It’s incredible, you know,” Simpson told WLOX News. “Everything’s happened so fast. It’s packed out here.”
Mega fans Erika Martin and Rosalie Carrol said, “He’s, like, amazing. Totally talented. His eyes are gorgeous. He’s perfect!”
Between squeals, best friends Katie Lamb and Madison Foremen said, “He’s awesome, he’s awesome. He’s everything!”
A few guest appearances on the Disney Channel and music videos on YouTube, sky rocketed the unassuming 14-year-old to worldwide stardom.
He is still in disbelief about how it all happened, saying, “Actually, I have no idea. The power of the internet, I guess.”
Fan April Hardin couldn’t believe she was about to see her favorite singer take the stage.
“I love him so much because he’s so cute, and I love his songs!”
He started performing other artists songs and now has a band and music of his own.
“I just work hard and believe in myself, and, you know, things happen. And I’m just so grateful.”"

Cody Simpson is the Sweetest Guy
In a recent interview Cody was quoted saying:
I wrote a song for a girl I liked, and I played it for her. It actually made her, her mom and her grandma cry when they all heard it.
Now that’s a really sweet thing to do, I can just imagine how great that would have been for the girl and her family. It just shows us how really sweet and down to earth Cody Simpson really is.

Cody Simpson versus Justin Bieber
Since Cody Simpson has launched onto the music scene many commentators have been comparing him with Justin Bieber. They are both similar ages; Cody is 13 while Justin is 16, and have the same style of singing. Both Cody and Justin were discovered on the online video sharing site Youtube [so to all of you who want to make it in music - create a Youtube account and get uploading].
They have a similar look which Justin many would describe as cute and innocent, yet still being very attractive. In fact both Simpson and Bieber have a cult following of teenage girls who follow their every move, buy their every song and scream simply at the site of their idols.
They even share similarities between the songs they have produced. Cody Simpson released a song entitled One while Justin Bieber had his massive hit One Time. The jury is still out on how similar they really are, but we know for sure Justin’s song was much more popular.
So how does the whole Cody Simpson versus Justin Bieber debate end. Well, they are two completely different music artists who happen to share a few coincidences (these days many music artists share similar traits). They both however appear to be singing in the same genre which could lead to some interesting competition in the future, maybe there is even potential for a Cody Simpson and Justin Bieber duet?
